Firefighters evacuated from Ind. station after CO scare

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Firefighters were evacuated from a South Bend fire station after detectors showed the presence of carbon monoxide.
Fire Department Services Chief Mark Nowicki says firefighters were evacuated from Fire Station No. 9 for about eight hours Monday.
Fire Chief Howard Buchanon says carbon monoxide detectors on firetrucks and throughout the building have been picking up sporadic carbon monoxide readings.
It isn't clear whether the source of the gas was found. Firefighters were back in the station Monday evening.
Nowicki says other fire stations were available to take any calls to Station No. 9 during the evacuation.
