Fire at residential mental health facility displaces 400

Staff Report
The Chicago Tribune

ROBBINS, Ill. — A fire at a residential mental health facility in south suburban Robbins early this morning forced the evacuation of about 400 residents to a village community center, officials said.

A mattress fire, probably caused by smoking, broke out about 1 a.m. on the sixth floor of the Lydia Healthcare Center, a long-term care center at 13901 Lydia Avenue in the south suburb, said Robbins Fire Chief Charles B. Lloyd Jr.

The building had to be closed because the sprinkler system went off and the building has to be cleaned, he said. Most of the damage was caused by smoke and water.
