Carbon monoxide alarms now mandated in Ind.

CHARLESTON, Ind. — Charleston and Mattoon firefighters are spreading the word about a new state law that will require carbon monoxide detectors to be installed in most buildings containing bedrooms starting Monday.

The Carbon Monoxide Alarm Detector Act will require every residence to have at least one approved and operating carbon monoxide alarm within 15 feet of every room used for sleeping. This odorless, tasteless gas is produced when natural gas, wood, coal, propane, oil and other fossil fuels are burned incompletely.
