PENNSVILLE, N.J. — A cracked heater plate was the cause of elevated carbon monoxide levels that forced the evacuation of more than 90 seniors from their apartments over the weekend, officials said Monday.

Residents of Pennsville Towers, an eight-story senior citizens housing facility located at 40 Eaton Road, were evacuated for approximately nine hours Saturday night into Sunday morning after a carbon monoxide detector alarm sounded.

No seniors were injured as a result of the incident and the heater plate has since been fixed, according to Pennsville Police Emergency Management Coordinator Sgt. Dave Polk. Residents were able to move back into the building early Sunday morning.
