Carbon monoxide sends 5 to hospital in Md.

By Scott Daugherty
The Capital

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Five people were taken to the hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning yesterday morning after a malfunctioning furnace filled a Ferndale home with the noxious gas.

Lt. Russ Davies, county fire spokesman, said the three men and two women who were inside the house at 102 Ferndale Road about 10:40 a.m. should survive though, thanks to the home having a carbon monoxide alarm.

"The key was early notification. Otherwise it could have had tragic consequences," he said.
